Product description
The Turk is an extravagant painted candle figure standing on a base with a carpet. His right hand holds a pipe, his left hand is a candle holder.
For the candle holder the candle is included. We suggest to NOT light the candle, but only use them as decoration. Risk of fire!
Historical Background
In former times as the miner coldn't see the sun in the winter months, light as a symbol of life was very important. To light the way to the mine the families put candles in the windows.
This tradition of candle figures is still alive today in the Ore Mountains: For every child a figure is placed in the windows, an angel for a girl, a miner for a boy.
Also characters of oriental cultures were equipped with candles.
